Zeh Scherzer Covered Sugar Bowl or Serving Bowl # 27663
This is a Zeh Scherzer covered dish. The dish is a square and triangle. It is square shaped, but wider at the top than the bottom. Then, to make it more interesting, the top edge is uneven-higher on two opposite corners and lower on the other two. The two higher corners are also slightly flared out giving this an even more uneven look. This dish comes with the matching lid. The dish is an ivory color with pink rosebuds on the corners and cascading gold dots in the center. It is trimmed in gold and marked as shown. The base is numbered 587, but I am not finding a pattern in that number. The dish has a 1949 to 1991 backstamp.
Because I cannot find a pattern name, I am not entirely sure what the purpose of this dish is. It could be a sugar bowl, but it does not have a spoon cut out in the lid. It could also be used as a honey pot, a jelly jar or any kind of serving bowl.
The base dish measures 5 5/8 inches wide at the top rim and it is 2 3/8 inches wide at the base. The dish is 3 3/8 inches tall at the lower corner and 3.75 inches tall at the higher corners. It is 4 7/8 inches tall to the top of the handle.
The dish looks brand new. The inside is clean, the gold is shiny and it has no chips, cracks, or other damage.
